Jesse Fann, MD, MPH

Dr. Fann is the Mark N. Tabbutt Endowed Professor for Education in Brain Health and Director of the Clinician Scientist Training Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Rehabilitation Medicine and Epidemiology at UW.

Dr. Fann is Medical Director of the Department of Psychosocial Oncology at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Since 2010, he developed and directs Fred Hutch’s Integrated Psychosocial Oncology Program, which uses the collaborative care model to integrate evidence-based psychosocial care into routine cancer care. He has assisted numerous other cancer centers in the implementation of the collaborative care model. He was elected president of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS), serves on the Distress Management Clinical Practice Guidelines panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and was named one of America’s Top Cancer Doctors by Newsweek Magazine.

Dr. Fann’s research focuses on developing cost-effective strategies to identify and manage behavioral and psychosocial issues in people with cancer, traumatic brain injury, and other medical conditions. His research has been funded by NIH, PCORI, CDC, American Cancer Society, and the Department of Education. He is currently PI on a National Cancer Institute-funded study to develop and test new technologies to optimize engagement in collaborative care for depression in the cancer setting.

Dr. Fann received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, his MD from Northwestern University, and his MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. He completed his residency and research fellowship training at the University of Washington, where he was Chief Resident at the UW Medical Center.
