About Patient Activation Training

Patient Activation training and certification typically requires between 15 to 18 hours of participant time over the course of seven months. Upon completing all training requirements, participants receive certification as a patient activation practitioner. Patient Activation training includes the following components:

Kickoff Webinar 30 minutes
Online Training or
In-Person Workshop
1.5 hours (online training)
1.5 hours (Q&A group webinar)
Phone-Based Practice Sessions 3 hours per clinician
Monthly Case Presentation  6 hours (monthly group supervision calls)
Audio Recording Review 3 hours** per clinician (1 hour per review)

* All times are approximate.
** Please also include technical time in your time estimates to account for recording Patient Activation sessions that are submitted for review.

Required Time Commitment 

It is assumed that once engaged in Patient Activation Training, the clinician will devote between 15 to 18 hours over the course of seven months to becoming certified.

To register, contact uwaims@uw.edu with the subject "Patient Activation". Given the time requirements listed above, please note when you are available to start. Cohorts are formed on a rolling basis and consist of 5-8 participants. If you are registering on behalf of other clinicians at your organization, please provide each participant's full name & licensure and email address.
