The COMPASS initiative: description of a nationwide collaborative approach to the care of patients with depression and diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease

This article describes the implementation of the Care of Mental, Physical and Substance-Use Syndromes [1] (COMPASS) Initiative, which was implemented in 18 medical groups and 172 clinics across eight states. COMPASS is considered one of the largest collaborative care implementations to date and the program treated depressed patients who were also diagnosed diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease.
